Thanks to everyone who read my first “First Five” edition on Kathyrn Bigelow. As a reminder, First Five is exclusive to paid subscribers since it’s a bit more time intensive. However, if you’re currently at the free tier and would be more amenable to a paid subscription if First Five covered a director you’d like to know more about, then now is your chance! Here are four directors I’m considering for the next First Five. Select one, and the winner will be the subject! Pretty easy!
Also, please consider signing up for an annual paid subscription. Paid subscribers get commenting privileges, exclusive articles (not just First Five but also articles on the latest entertainment news), weekend chat sessions, and more. For just the cost of a $50 cup of coffee, this annual subscription can be yours!
Like most people, my first Peter Weir film was Picnic at Hanging Rock that I saw while in college around 77 or 78. I remember coming out of that film (maybe a midnight showing) and going wow, i can't wait to see what this director is going to do next! Then in the 80s he had a hot streak. Until Green Card (ugh). I think Master and Commander is a film that is going to grow in critics eyes as it get rediscovered.
What about a first five on movies you’ve changed your mind about?
